Why Am I Always Getting Cavities? Understanding the Root Causes and Solutions
Does it seem like you need a new cavity filled every time you go to the dentist? Do you brush twice, floss daily, use mouthwash, and still have cavities. What is up with that?
Well, usually, it’s because your dentist just filled the cavity and never looked into why you are getting them. It is CRUCIAL to find out the cause of the cavities or any dental issues you have. You can not just “fix” the problem without understanding why it is happening.
Different people will be getting cavities for different reasons. Yes, cavities are caused by bacteria which you can remove by brushing and flossing. But did you know that the mouth is a super harsh environment? There is a constant change from hot to cold, acidic to not, and lots of smashing and crashing.
Here are five reasons why you may constantly need new fillings:
1. Your brushing and/or flossing technique may be incorrect.
2. You may have a diet that puts you at a higher risk for cavities.
3. You have systemic causes such as acid reflux which wear down your teeth and fillings.
4. You are clenching/grinding, which will cause also wear down your teeth and fillings
5. Your dentist may not use the best techniques and materials to fix your teeth.
So next time you are diagnosed with cavities, ask why, and don’t settle for “you have soft teeth” as an answer.
